This session will be moderated by innkeepers Carol Beazley of the Beazley House Bed & Breakfast and Ann Callahan of the Hillcrest House Bed & Breakfast. Questions will be asked to the group and all responses will be no more than 20 seconds. Questions like; “Do I need to buy a commercial washer?,” “What thread count sheets does everyone use?” “How many dryers do I need for my number of rooms?” and more!

Tourism Improvement Districts: A stable funding source for DMOs
Presented by John Lambeth, President & CEO of Civitas
This session will inform attendees on the newest creative ways in which tourism improvement districts, a specialized type of Business Improvement District, are being used to benefit CVBs and other tourism related business. Historically BIDs have been public-private partnerships focused on improving commercial areas. Marking an evolution of the concept, in 1989 the first tourism improvement district was formed; the district was formed by hotels in West Hollywood to fund group marketing efforts. There are now over 100 TIDs in seven states, including 83 in California. They raise over $200 million per year. This session will include an introduction to tourism improvement districts, provide the history behind TIDs, TID case studies, and an overview of the TID formation process. Following the success of TIDs, many other business types have looked into creating similar assessment districts to fund collective marketing. Participants will learn the latest news on innovative restaurant, winery, and golf marketing districts.

Transportation to and from the restaurants will be provided. Everyone will pay for their own dinner. After dinner, we will meet back at the Embassy Suites for more fun, mingling, dessert and a night-cap!
