InnSpire 2017 - Inspiration Aboard the Queen Mary

The 2017 InnSpire Summit & Marketplace, hosted jointly by the California Association of Boutique & Breakfast Inns (CABBI), the Association of Independent Hospitality Professionals (AIHP) and Select Registry, was held January 29 – February 1 aboard the Historic Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. This exciting joint event was the first time the three associations have come together to produce one large conference focused on education and networking for innkeepers and hoteliers from around the country.

Here's what InnSpire Summit & Marketplace attendees had to say:

"This was my first Innkeeper conference and I found it excellent all around. The topics, the speakers, the food were all top notch!"

"As an almost twenty year innkeeper, I returned home with more ideas than ever! Thank you all for making it such a great learning experience!"

"Excellent variety of seminars and panel sessions. Congratulations to the organizers for a wonderful conference providing outstanding networking and learning."

"The educational offerings are terrific. I cannot imagine running my business without the opportunity for learning provided here."

2017 Conference Highlights

Attended by industry professionals from 42 states plus the District of Columbia, the InnSpire Summit & Marketplace was three days of unparalleled education, networking opportunities and the largest trade show if its kind. Attendees made their way to the event by car, train, boat, plane and even helicopter! This year’s event kicked off with a reception in the Queen Mary Historic Exhibit, complete with a tour of the engine room and a welcome from the ship’s captain. Monday morning education started and attendees filled a packed room to hear keynote speaker Daniel Lemin talk about online reviews before breaking out into education sessions and joining for lunch during the grand opening of the InnSpire Summit Marketplace.

Throughout the event, attendees were invited to choose between educational workshops covering marketing, operations and guest service. The event also featured a track of education for new innkeepers to help them navigate their first years in the business.

The host venue, the Historic Queen Mary, provided a unique learning atmosphere, complete with photos of celebrity passengers, World War II history, and even a ghost sighting. The ship was the perfect atmosphere for the 1940s-themed InnSpire Summit Gala Dinner. Complete with the sounds of Liz Holmes Retro Swing Band, attendees donned their best 1940s attire and enjoyed a step back in time to the ship’s heyday. Attendees enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by the ship’s award winning culinary staff, captured memories in the gala photo booth, bid on items during the exciting live auction, and closed out the night cutting a rug on the dance floor.

The final day of the conference was full of education from industry experts and closed out with keynote speaker Josh Evans, who encouraged attendees to “ask for the second cookie” and rediscover their enthusiasm for the industry. Josh’s enthusiasm left our attendees ready to go home and kick off 2017 on the right foot. To take a look at the full conference schedule, click here.

The 2017 Marketplace was a record sell out!

This year’s trade show was the largest in InnSpire history with 57 vendors providing everything from booking systems and online marketing services to sheets, robes and other amenities. The marketplace floor was packed with innkeepers shopping for products and trying out the latest services offered by industry suppliers. Once again thank you to all our attendees, vendors and the conference sponsors who helped make our inaugural joint conference one for the history books. We hope to see everyone at the 2018 InnSpire Conference & Marketplace, hosted by CABBI, January 21-23, 2018 at Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite.

Innkeeping as a Profession (IAP) Workshop

Prior to the conference, 27 aspiring innkeepers from around the country attended the annual Innkeeping as a Profession (IAP) workshop. These B&B-hopefuls spent two-days immersed in the industry with expert speakers and veteran innkeepers. Coming from all over the country, this years’ IAP attendees were energetic and eager to get into the industry. Half of them even stayed for the full conference and truly immersed themselves in the industry.
