InnSpire 2014 - Finding Inspiration, Seaside.

The 2014 InnSpire Conference & Trade Show, hosted by the California Association of Boutique & Breakfast Inns (CABBI), was recently held at the Embassy Suites Monterey Bay in Seaside, CA. Conference attendees experienced several days of exceptional educational workshops and a sold out trade show with over 36 exhibitors.

Here's what InnSpire 2014 attendees are saying:

5 Star Review!! Thank you so much for a wonderful information-filled and well organized event.  We so looked forward to the event and came away with new ideas, friends and suppliers.”

This year’s [conference] was great … AGAIN!

It's always like old home week, with both my long time innkeeper friends, new members and of course, the vendors I found at CABBI.

The enthusiasm and level of engagement this year seemed particularly high.

2014 Conference Highlights

Our popular round table sessions kicked off the start of this year’s conference. Eight great topics were presented during these 20-minute mini-sessions which provided a great start to the conference education. Our opening reception in the trade show was the perfect way to break the ice between exhibitors and attendees. Thank you to Scheid Vineyards and Wild Game Wine for donating wine for the opening reception.

Monday’s general session kicked off a full day of education and trade show time.  The session titled “Use the 'Barefoot Spirit' to Grow Your Business” was presented by Bonnie Harvey and Michael Houlihan, founders of Barefoot Wine and authors of The Barefoot Spirit. All attendees received a copy of their book and some inspiration to take home with them.
Monday night's “Dine Around Monterey Dinner” was a huge hit! Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to network while experiencing the fine cuisine of Downtown Monterey and their famous Fisherman’s Wharf. The evening concluded with Port tasting and a dessert spread back at the hotel. Thank you to our Port sponsor Pierce Vineyards.

This year, a number of new speakers and topics were featured over a dozen educational sessions. Workshops included “Social Media and Content Management Strategies,” “So you Think your Covered? Insurance Panel,” “Ask an Innkeeper”, “Revenue Management for Small Properties,” “Attracting and Catering to the Chinese Traveler” and many more. [See the full conference schedule review here.]

The 2014 Trade Show was a sell out!

This year's InnSpire Trade Show featured many new, and repeat exhibitors, both with a variety of exciting new products and services. There were plenty of opportunities for attendees to talk one-on-one with Internet marketing companies, insurance providers, amenity suppliers, photographers and more.

"We're so appreciative of the opportunities you and your team provide for us through CABBI. We attend a lot of shows and CABBI is by far the best run for both vendors and attendees. [We're] already getting excited about next year in Sonoma!"

"I have been to other industry conferences and this one allowed for much better interaction with attendees than the others. The show overall was a lot of fun, we enjoyed the support of CABBI with the business card raffle and the Dine Around Dinner was a blast."

Innkeeping as a Profession (IAP) Workshop

Before the main conference, 21 aspiring innkeepers attended the two-day Innkeeping As a Profession (IAP) workshop to learn about the industry and what it takes to run a bed and breakfast on a day-to-day basis. This was the largest aspiring group in IAP history!

Here's what IAP attendees had to say:

I really enjoyed being able to hear real situations and experiences.

Loads of information – an eye-opening event.

This has been very helpful and fun. Thank you!!

The workshop helped to confirm some of our ideas and taught us a few new things.”
