InnSpire 2013 - Reaching New Heights

The 2013 InnSpire Conference & Trade Show hosted by the California Association of Bed & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) was recently held at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek in Santa Rosa, CA. Conference attendees experienced several days of exceptional educational workshops and a trade show over 30 exhibitors. Attendees also got to experience the conference’s host city during the “Dine Around Santa Rosa Dinner” on Monday evening.

Here's what InnSpire 2013 attendees are saying:

“InnSpire gives us the 'extra push' to keep getting better are innkeeping.  It truly re-inspires us each year to be the best we can.” – Stephanie Carlson & Rita Wells, Albert Shafsky House B&B

“I was a 1st time attendee at this meeting and I felt it was very good. I had a great time and I will try and attend future meetings. The CABBI Staff was most helpful and friendly!” – Bob Latta, High Country Inn

"Just the opportunity to network and visit with old friends and other innkeepers makes the conference worthwhile.  Their input seems to always fit with something I've been considering.” – Peggy Mosley, Groveland Hotel

2013 Conference Highlights

The annual California Association of Bed & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) InnSpire Conference and Trade Show was held March 3-5, 2013 at the Hyatt Vineyard Cree in Santa Rosa, CA. This wine country getaway was a hit among the InnSpire attendees and exhibitors.

The conference was kicked off with the popular round table sessions. Ten great topics were presented during these 20-minute mini-sessions and provided a great start to the conference education. Our opening reception in the trade show was the perfect way to break the ice between exhibitors and attendees.

Monday’s general session really started off the conference on the right foot.  The session titled “Learning to Run Wild: Achieving Work/Life Balance” presented by Jean Steel had the group laughing and cheering. One innkeeper said “Running Wild was probably the best speaker/presentation I have ever attended. I have been to many conferences in different fields over the past 30+ years, she was amazing.”

Monday night's “Dine Around Santa Rosa Dinner” was a hit! Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to network while experience the fine cuisine of our host city. The evening was topped off with port and dessert at the night cap back at the hotel.

This year a number of new speakers and topics were featured during over a dozen educational sessions. Workshops included "Bartering is Back," "The room is booked, now what?," wine pairing, “Digital Twister – from Internet to Hypernet,” ADA Updates and several sessions on social media marketing. [See the full conference schedule review here.]

This year's InnSpire Trade Show featured many new and repeat exhibitors, both with a variety of exciting new products. Conference attendees could see, smell and touch the amenities offered. There were opportunities to talk one-on-one with Internet marketing companies, insurance providers, amenity suppliers, photographers and more.

Innkeeping as a Profession (IAP) Workshop

Before the main conference, 19 aspiring innkeepers attended the two-day Innkeeping As a Profession (IAP) workshop to learn about the industry and what it takes to run a bed and breakfast on a day-to-day basis. This was the largest aspiring group in several years, making it a great and successful weekend.

Here's what IAP attendees had to say:

“This was tremendously helpful and inspiring! I loved the camaraderie of the CABBI members who helped present, it makes me want to join now…and I’m not even an innkeeper yet! Thank you!”

“An excellent means to jump start looking into being an innkeeper.”

“Excellent. I really enjoyed the whole deal.”

“I enjoyed the conference very much. Presentations were informative and relevant.”
